PADDLE AT THE PARK: Meet area paddlers at Ada Hayden Heritage Park Wednesday evenings (beginning 6:30-7:00ish) May-September. Contact Cindy @ skunkriverpaddlers.org
ISU Canoe and Kayak Club POOL SESSIONS: ISUCK meets at State Gym Pool Wednesday and Friday evenings September through April, while classes are in session. Kayaks are provided by the club.
WINTER HIKES: Story County Hikes (Sundays at 1:30), Outdoor Alliance Hikes (Thursdays at 1:30)
Soper's Mill Access Improvements: A contract has been awarded for this project, with construction to begin in 2023.
Hannum's Mill Dam Mitigation: The Conservation Board is currently raising funds for the partial removal of this dam, including channel changes and streambank protection.
A Blogpost of FAQs has been created in response to questions asked on popular Facebook Group paddling pages.
ACCESS ADA HAYDEN: A committee of SRP members led an effort to bring an ADA - compliant canoe and kayak launch and dock to Ada Hayden Park. Learn more about the accessible launch and dock on Facebook at AccessAdaHayden and on our Blog Page.
The Great Ames Adventure Race! Held on the first Sunday following Labor Day, the paddlers have been involved with this race ("The GAAR") since the inaugural Red Cross event in 2007, and race proceeds have supported fifteen local nonprofits and projects! The 2022 event was planned and presented by the Ames Jaycees with guidance from past committee members.
